55 popular regulations expiring at year's end of 2019

As 2019 involves a close, so will a large number of regulations that save companies billions of dollars in tax liability.

Congress has allowed 55 regulations to expire and can likely restore most of them, retroactively, within the coming months, the Associated Press reported. In years past, the breaks have expired only to be restored within the months to come.

“It’s a totally ridiculous method to run our tax system,” Rachelle Bernstein, vice president of the National Retail Federation, told the AP. “It’s impossible to organize when every year this happens, and yet business has gotten used to that.

Some from the regulations are big, including billions in credits for research and development, generous exemptions for banks that operate overseas and many that permit businesses to create off capital investments faster.
