Kia teases GT4 Stinger sportscar concept ahead of Detroit Motor Show 2019

With power visiting the rear wheels and up to 315 horsepower on tap, the KIA GT4 Stinger Concept looks beefy from this teaser photo. The facts? Creating a (somewhat) educated guess, it could be a KIA based on the Hyundai Genesis Coupe’s platform. In that case, it could be a contender for production.

A very short press release from Kia gave us an idea of what is in the future using the Kia GT4 Stinger Concept. We quote here ver batim:

BEHOLD, THE KIA GT4 STINGER-

Kia faithful will immediately spot the latest iteration from the signature grille resting mere inches from the ground. The surround glows white and it is flanked by vertical LED headlamps. Front-brake cooling vents funnel air around custom 20-inch wheels. A carbon fiber front splitter mounted underneath the bumper provides added downforce for the car and keeps the GT4 Stinger’s front tires firmly planted towards the tarmac.

Under the hood you may well ask? A turbocharged 2.0-liter that pumps 315 horsepower to the rear wheels.

More in the future. Stay tuned.

If that does not get red-blooded sports car fans’ hearts thrumming, they should check their pulse. We’re talking about a turbocharged four-banger Kia that will produce more horsepower than any base model American ponycar. Presumably, it will be lighter and lower than any one of said ponycars, as well – both characteristics which will pay dividends in performance specs and handling behaviors. Add to that the cool factor of getting honest-to-blog carbon fiber splitter and LED headlamps on a car we mere mortals might be able to afford, and it sounds like Kia gets prepared to bring its A game to the genre covered with the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, and Dodge Challenger.

“Stay tuned,” you say, Kia? Better believe we undoubtedly are. You’ve got us wondering what sort of technology you’re going to pack into the Kia GT4 Stinger Concept. After all, surely Kia wouldn’t bring a car this cool and sporty-looking to promote without making upadtes or attitude changes in its sleek UVO infotainment system, right?
